EDOTCO Sri Lankas Gayan Koralage Recognised as Top 100 Global Digital Infrastructure Leader

Colombo, Sri Lanka, 2024 – Gayan Koralage, Country Managing Director of EDOTCO Sri Lanka, has been named by Capacity Media, a leading London-based telecommunications industry platform, as one of the 100 most influential leaders driving global digital infrastructure. This recognition highlights Gayan’s exceptional leadership and expertise in shaping the future of the digital infrastructure landscape.

Gayan brings over two decades of experience in telecommunications sector. His illustrative career began with Dialog Telecom twenty-two years ago before moving to Malaysia’s national telecommunication carrier, Telekom Malaysia, where he was involved in strategic roles encompassing M&A and business development initiatives across Asia and the Middle East. In 2007, he joined Axiata Group Berhad, where his experience expanded to include mergers and acquisitions, corporate finance, and business development projects encompassing various communication technologies.

In 2012, Gayan became a founding member of EDOTCO Group, delivering a strategic carve-out initiative of infrastructure from Axiata’s mobile network operators. EDOTCO Group became the largest independent tower infrastructure company in Malaysia, serving as a model for expansion into emerging markets like Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Cambodia, Pakistan, Philippines and Indonesia. Today, EDOTCO Group owns and manages more than 54,000 towers across nine markets.

Besides his local role as Country Managing Director, Gayan holds two key positions at EDOTCO Group as Director of Group Strategy and Director of Malaysia Business. His strategic foresight and leadership have been instrumental in steering the growth trajectory of EDOTCO Group, influencing key themes such as 5G, network disruption, digital economy, digital transformation, and inter-generational opportunities.

As Sri Lanka embarks on a new wave of digital infrastructure development, this recognition shines a spotlight on the caliber of the country’s business leadership. It also highlights Sri Lanka’s growing potential in the infrastructure sector, particularly as the country prepares to amend its Telecommunication Act to facilitate infrastructure provider licensing.
