Sri Lanka sells extra Rs13mn Treasury bills after auction

ECONOMYNEXT – Sri Lanka stocks closed down 0.27 percent on Thursday, with continued selling pressure seen in the market despite occasional buying interest, brokers said.

The broader ASPI closed down 0.27 percent, or 43.43 points, at 16,123.10; while the more liquid S&P SL20 Index closed down 0.11 percent, or 5.52 points, at 4,817.5.

A turnover of 2.3 billion rupees was recorded in the session.

Top negative contributors to the ASPI were Ceylon Tobacco Company (ended 5.9 percent weaker at 1348.00), Melstacorp (fell 1.5 at 128.00), HNB (down 0.5 percent at 312.00), Ceylon Cold Stores (closed down 2.9 percent at 80.00) and Browns Investments (fell 1.3 percent at 7.90).

High turnover levels were seen in capital goods (963 million rupees), banks (598 million rupees) and food, beverage and tobacco (229 million rupees) sectors.

Most active volumes were seen in John Keells Holdings at 35,207,535 (turnover 739,354,840.50 rupees), Browns Investments at 8,384,111 (turnover 67,406,114.20 rupees), Jetwing Symphony at 4,064,285 (turnover 49,542,303.90 rupees) and Marawila Resorts at 2,367,589 (turnover 15,683,600.40 rupees).
